A large analysis of almost 350k patients seems to point that non-beta lactam surgical prophylaxis should be avoided compared to beta lactam agents. This could mean confirming the legitimacy of the beta lactam allergy before surgery.

Working in the NICU and its clear to see its RSV vaccine season. People who are expecting should either receive an RSV vaccine or their newborn should receive. The newborn RSV vaccine is technically just antibodies.

Measles exposure continues to rise, especially in South Carolina, where a large amount of the exposures are among schools of children with low vaccination rates. Another school in SC is said that only 17% of the children are up-to-date on measles.

A veterinary diagnostic laboratory located in NYC reported a high level of carbapenem-resistant organisms among their gram-negative isolates. The most common of which were Klebsiella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and E. coli, problematic organisms for us too.

This news article posted in Nature notes many of the key points of the antimicrobial resistance trends that are an issue. One that particularly stood out to me was the projected 30% increase in livestock antimicrobial use by 2040 compared to 2019.

Chances in vaccine usage is changing. The vote to delay the hepatitis B vaccine at birth to a later time was itself postponed another date. The MMRV vaccine was also removed from the free federal vaccine program VFC.

The CDC recently updated their 2025-2026 respiratory disease season outlook and the estimated hospital burden of COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. They estimate it every 2 months and its currently estimated to be around last year's peak.
