First 2D standalone animated movie, excluding crossovers, live action and 3D

It's really sad that the staff don't get their due appreciation, but I'm forever grateful that we get to see such a groundbreaking series come to a proper ending instead of being cut short.

I reckon so. I assume TMS would celebrate it if ImmortaI Bloodline were doing well at box office, but nothing's happened yet. Plus, Shimoji said it is blasted by critics and a commercial flop.

Is the series losing money? I haven't found any official figures from TMS. It's definitely an expensive production

There's at least five of her, each voiced by a different actor, including the one from Bloodspray, which may serve as an in-story explanation for the change of actors and how Hawk ends up on the island.

That makes so much sense. Thanks for your insight! Just like we got two Hawks, the Sarifa from Bloodspray is probably not the same one in most of Bloodline, voiced by Morikawa.

5) the one with the assassin factory, the Bermuda one serving as a junkyard for failed assassins, aka garbage men, and the Caribbean one where Mamo and clones of historical figures and politicians like Braelin of Loviet, reside.

4) got out without being spotted by Hawk, Sarifa or whatever other assassins may be guarding the island. I was also under the impression that this is where they'll be going next, but apparently it's not the same one as in Bermuda. So maybe there's three separate locations in total?

3) of Mamo events rather than the original Mamo film. What do you think about the island in Bloodspray and Lie where Hawk and Sarifa live and the Bermuda island? When Lupin shows Fujiko pictures of the assassin factory in Lie, it implies that Lupin and Jigen must have snuck in, taken photos, and

2) and respected him a lot. Koike designed Immortal Bloodline to be a prequel to Mystery of Mamo, but given the characterization and plot differences or inconsistencies between the two, most notably, Zenigata and Lupin's personality, but the IIIRD saga seems to be leading up to a Koike-esque version

1) Well said. It's indeed unfair for script writers to take sole credit or all blame. According to Takahashi, Ishii's conception of Muom was controversial and met with opposition among staff members, but came through due to Koike's full support (in Takahashi's words, Koike worked with Ishii

Shimoji also criticized the script, saying it's the worst of the series. TBH, I've always considered the trio of Koike, Ishii and Shimoji to be the linchpin for their styles are the most prominent and impact the production the most. I appreciate Takahashi's work, but I don't like Part IV at all.

I see complaints that some of the bad reviews didn't even get the character names right, and there's no way it can be that bad even if it's not as good as Gravestone and Bloodspray. So my opinion is that some hate speech is definitely involved.
July 1, 2025 at 9:18 AM
Indeed. I'm aware Koike Lupin has a small yet devoted fanbase, but not that it's hated by many Lupin fans and some of the general audience. Immortal Bloodline is rated 2.6/5 on eiga.com, the lowest rated anime in the franchise, followed only by the two live action adaptations in 1974 and 2014.

I'm genuinely surprised because the IIIRD series and Zero are my two favorite titles in the franchise after Cagliostro. My head canon is that Koike Lupin could have grown up from his time in Lupin Zero, without, of course, having been childhood buddies with Jigen.

I browsed through his tweets. He seems to be complaining about over-emphasis on the visual, lazy writing, and the director shifting responsibilities for bad story onto the scriptwriter. That's indeed some caustic comments, especially coming from Japanese who are usually reserved.

Speaking of voice actors, the official movie site lists Yael and Hawk but not their actors. Does that mean they're non-speaking roles, which, if true, would be a shame!
June 25, 2025 at 1:17 PM
I don't pay much attention other than their voices. Voice actors in Japan get much more exposure than those in other countries coz they're advertised and operate as celebrities. In my country, marketing focuses on voice actors mostly when they're famous actors and singers doing special appearances
June 25, 2025 at 12:59 PM
100% agree! I care so much more about what the director, producer, writer, and also in IIIRD's case, composer have to say. I fully appreciate voice actors' talent and dedication, but personally I don't consider them to be the core of the production.

Nice, this looks so cool. I thought they were not going to do it for a streaming release.
June 20, 2025 at 10:24 AM
It's also confirmed on Toho site that the movie is 93 minutes.

I remember Koike said something about his series serving as a bridge between Part I (first half) and Mamo. Looks like he followed through on that idea after all
June 17, 2025 at 1:16 PM
Sorry I haven't been paying attention to eng subs. But I do believe it's gonna be a lot faster than the previous chapters just like you said considering all the hype and anticipation.
