If you’re not using coupons and in-app deals at the store, learn how to do that too. Last time we went to Kroger, we saved almost $60 with in-app deals and coupons.

Some stuff might not be what you want, but if it’s what you can afford then you’re still getting food on the table. That is what is important. If you don’t know cooking basics, now is the time to learn. Go to the library and find cookbooks or look up videos on YouTube.

A lot of people overeat and over serve their kids, and that’s just the truth. Technically, one serving of meat is the size of a deck of cards. You don’t need 2lb of ground beef for 3-4 people.
Try to plan a main protein with a vegetable, side, and maybe fruit. Balance the meals and it goes farther.

Based on my childhood experience and even my experience now as an adult, you have to cook. That’s really the bottom line. It’s not only cheaper to cook, but it’s healthier and you can stretch things farther. You also need to be conscious of portion sizes.

We also ate a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches and soup. “Microwave nachos” was a staple. We’d also eat cucumber salads, pb&j, lentils, couscous, and frozen party pizzas. I can’t stomach them these days, but they’d also buy frozen burritos because they were cheap.

7. You can’t forget classic spaghetti, too. We’d have this a lot because, again, it was cheap. Pasta with sauce, sometimes with ground beef, canned vegetables, and garlic bread. Sometimes we’d use leftover sauce to make “tortilla pizza”

6. My parents made tacos a lot, too. Just like the rest, you can sub ground beef for turkey or chicken, or you can use beans. Taco shells & tortillas are cheap, you can find cheap cheese (especially generic blocks), and beans are not expensive all.

5. Breakfast for dinner was also common because eggs and pancake mix was cheap. You can get a box of pancake/waffle mix for under $3, and even eggs right now at my local Kroger are just $2.49. You get protein from the eggs so if you can’t afford bacon or sausage, you’re fine.

4. Another thing we’d have a lot was kielbasa with canned sauerkraut, canned potatoes, and canned veggies. If it was a good week, they’d add some onions and peppers. Even today, kielbasa isn’t that expensive, and you can buy it for under $5 if you go generic.

3. Once a week, at least, we’d have meatloaf with mashed potatoes and canned veggies or fruit. Again, ground beef is expensive right now but you can sub with ground turkey or chicken. And yes, one pound of meat fed all 5 of us with the sides included.

2. Another thing my mom would make was chicken adobo with drumsticks, which are still not terribly expensive. She’d serve it with instant rice and veggies. For the marinade, she’d use soy sauce, vinegar, sugar and spices we had on hand.

One pack of chicken legs fed all 5 of us.

My parents fed a family of 5 with one box. They added canned fruits and veggies on the side. If you buy generics, you can get a can for under $1. They’d also serve rolls or bread as a side.

1. We ate a lot of Hamburger Helper. It’s not great but it fed us. In 2025, it’s around $2 a box. Ground beef is expensive, but you can sub ground turkey or chicken. You can even use canned chicken, or make it vegetarian. If the box requires milk and you don’t have it, you can use water.

Nothing wrong with giving respect to allies who are speaking up. It’s more than some so-called allies and even people within the community are doing.

Also, there is nothing wrong with giving respect to the allies who are actually being allies and speaking up. It’s more than some so-called allies and even people within the community are doing.

And where has Chappell been? Speaking out against all this stuff going on? Did she wave trans flags at her performances instead of normal flags?

Oh right, she was busy throwing tantrums over people wanting to know her political opinions and yelling at photographers doing their jobs.

The logo sucks but it is so much more than that.

Is the backlash for some deeply rooted in racism? Yeah, that goes without saying. But the general public? They just want consistency, especially right now.

I think people in the current climate are tired of things changing. They want those classic, go-to things that have remained the same.

Every day things are getting more expensive, companies are going under. What people thought was a staple isn’t anymore. It’s not just the logo.

The company likely is trying to rebrand itself to survive as these people continue to die off. The modern aesthetic is different and corporate branding has changed a lot just in the last 15-20 years.

It’s the 2020’s, this change was inevitable.
