Upgrade Update #4

Last week, IceCubers moved the drill tower and operations structures into place! The location is over hole 87, which will be the first Upgrade hole.

We present a search for clustering between a catalog of galaxies and IceCube data using the two-point angular cross-correlation. We did not find any significant clustering between the galaxies and neutrinos.

We searched for neutrinos from dark matter annihilation using IceCube’s DeepCore detector. A significant excess of neutrinos was not found, and new limits were set on dark matter interactions.

The crew spent a lot of time shoveling to get most of the buildings in the drill camp out. While the crew continues preparations, the South Pole Overland Traverse is making good progress.

Before the first group of IceCubers arrived at the South Pole, they examined the staging area for the cargo transport at McMurdo Station. This was to confirm that the Upgrade cable assemblies were ready.

The first wave of IceCubers has just arrived at McMurdo Station from Christchurch, NZ, aboard a USAF C-17. Soon, they will journey to the South Pole for the 3rd field season of the IceCube Upgrade, where they will drill seven holes through Antarctic ice.
