Game 28: Banished (Shining Rock Software, 2014)

While well-reviewed, Banished made more reviewers angry than I would have expected. I went in on the easiest level, clicked around my little forest and enjoyed my time. The world created anger, Banished didn't.

Likewise! Your game looks freaking great, and the sort of thing I love playing 😀

Game 27: Shadows Over Riva (attic Entertainment Software GmbH, 1996)

Possibly the worst UI decision in computer game history has me unable to engage in combat tactics, this is one of the best looking games of its time. Everything else about it is perfect!

Game 26: Dino Pop (Primetime Amusements, 2012)

Every redemption arc starts with a quality redemption game, what kind of reputation does Chuck E. Cheese have in your town, BlueSky?

Baseball Reference's feature for the next start for a pitcher hasn't worked in a bit - here it is saying that the deGrom is going back to back today - but I do hope at some point that a pitcher was out carousing all night only to shockingly see that he's supposed to start that day OH SHIIIIII

I didn't blog about a game this week, but I wanted to note the CRPG called Jettatura. If you liked the original Wizardry and want to play a game in the same style, this the game for you! Fun, while understanding that hey, someone else, ahhh, did the design.

Game 25: Paper Sorcerer (Ultra Runaway Games, 2013)

Paper Sorcerer has really sweet art direction & music and captures the vibe of a #CRPG perfectly.

Game 24: Meteor! (Edward T. Ordman, Andrew Fluegelman and Nancy Miller, 1981)

Meteor! is a BASIC DOS game that I played as a child when I was just happy to be playing anything for our home PC. I often wonder about similar games for the C64, Atari and such.

Game 23: Forbidden Forest (Paul Norman, 1983).

Released by Cosmi for the #Commodore 64 and Atari 8-bit, it still plays great and sounds wonderful. It's flawless on a MiSTer, and it'd be the first game I get if I buy one of those new C64s being developed.

Game 22: APB (Atari, 1987).

Last night I watched a very entertaining show where the grand finale was a number called, "I Hate Your Blog." Anyhoo, here is entry number twenty-two in my series of experiences this year with various video games: APB.

Game 21: Aztec (Paul Stephenson, 1982)

My research for this Apple // game indicates that its creator may have died in 2001. I am sorry that I never got a chance to properly purchase it. It's a fairly deep game for what it is that blew my mind as a kid.

I love that even the EGA and CGA versions of Flight Simulator nailed the attitude indicator.

Level 9 was a British company that made graphical #textadventures in the 1980s. There is a modern interpreter maintained by David Kinder that just got an update to fit the bitmap graphics to the window size. It looks AWESOME. Enjoy games like Scapeghost and Knight Orc!

Game 19: Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (Remedy Entertainment, 2003)

I've been replaying games and writing about them for almost half a year now, and I think I found one that doesn't hold up.

Game 18: Elevator Action (Taito, 1983)

There's "Otto," the protagonist of this game, and then "Evil Otto" from Berzerk. The easy way to recall which is which is by remembering that the one they call "Evil" didn't murder hundreds of people in an office building.

Game 17: Baldur's Gate III (Larian, 2023)

I have gone years without being able to power through the tutorial and first 15 hours of an RPG before it gets good, but I did so with BG3. I sort of hit "rock bottom" and oh, sorry Wyll.

Game 15: Adventure Construction Set (Electronic Arts, 1986). I was able to get my #Amiga 1200 working and this is the first game that I started up. Within a few moments I was able to behead a dude shooting at me, solving the "does this game hold up?" question.

Game 14: Galacticon (Radin Games, 2022).

This has been my favorite game for Steam Deck, so far.

Inspired by your post, I started it through the "Atari50" game/app. There's no nudging of Charley, and it seems to run a little fast, but it lets you pause to a menu to take breaks. I made it to about level 80 and each level is over in about 3 seconds. Very brutal!

Game 13: Food Fight (Atari 1983)

Throwing food at someone in a video game has never been more satisfying.

Game 12: Chopper Commando (DOS, 1989).

I could have shot the little paratrooper in the screenshot and committed a war crime, but instead I took the screenshot, tabbed over to Photoshop to paste it, and then heard the sound of my own chopper crashing. Gear up!
