No DMs (sorry).

European (English origin, very sorry). Mainly fair: good occasionally rough.
In the interests of balance (or, well, because nobody wants to play this game with me) here's Tilda Swinton at 64 (pictured with Haider Ackermann)

What TF is going on here @theguardian.com? This article is peppered with references to 'beliefs' (see below), 'arguments', 'views' etc, as if the work of "special rapporteurs [as] independent experts appointed by the UN" is more personal opinion than fact-based!

Last day! And a sample of what this event is like. The winner of this particular round* (from Ukraine, of course 🇺🇦💪🏻🥇) threw a 32kg weight above his head 234 times in 12 mins 👀

It’s quite tiring to watch…

*of something called military snatch, which is not what you** expect

**Me. It me.

And this is what we’re here for, in Kalisz, Poland - the world kettlebell championship, where my partner and just about everyone from our gym but me are representing England and Scotland

Does UK Gov have any contingency for when/if the AI bubble bursts? Does UKRI have plans for reviving a research ecology blighted by its monoculture funding focus on AI for everything - or does it expect people to ask the Magic 8 Ball for solutions to that issue as well?

When I read the Pepys diary extract below I thought, sounds familiar, stylistically... did Beckett read him? Answer: yes!

Two refs to Pepys (the only two) in Dirk Van Hulle and Mark Nixon's 2013 book 'Samuel Beckett's Library' (Cambridge University Press)

Mais bon, échappons ce merdier ! Demain, je serai en France, en route pour un week-end de vendanges chez des amis vignerons. Ouf...

It's my Mum's birthday today, and it's a biggie

This is my favourite photos of us from, ooh, 1967? when she was about 21 and me 3 (and though we've sometimes worried each other, or, in my case, been a pain in the arse... we've never really stopped making each other laugh)

Happy 80th Mibs! 💝

Our friend Garry* trying to remind people that flags are supposed to be objects of respect rather than something like the bins we put out for the council to collect

*whose dementia might be making it harder for him to remember the drinks he went to the bar for, but isn't diminishing his wit one bit

I know what you mean, but Texas alone is about 3x bigger than the whole of the UK. If you want comparable culinary range, you have to consider most of Europe :p
