They/Them
Sacramento-based non-profit Broad Room offers free art supplies to the people, and they are trying to raise funds right now!

They have helped other similar orgs to pop-up in other places, so if you want to support greater access to creativity and art then please help them out <3

📚💙!✨️ Luminous Beings by David Arnold and Jose Pimienta felt very on theme with everything going on; less zombie squirrels but nonetheless end of the world feeling

Genuine authentic connections in however they manifested is truly how to survive in the chaos of the world

Def recc this graphic novel

There is so much care placed into Soupy's story; the breakdown of the resources and attached educators guide was appreciated addition at the end (for the second edition)

📚💙! 'Soupy Leaves Home' by Cecil castellucci and Jose Pimienta was such a great read!

Found families and bonds made through shared struggles and vulnerability; to go beyond assumptions to instead connect based on actions and ethics; building a network of support with so little resources;

Are you in the Sacramento area? Elk Grove's bookstore A Seat at a Table is hosting open mic nights!

Every 3rd Fri 6PM-7:30PM

And seeking hosts for Vinyl&Vino

I'm unrelated to A Seat at the Table, but enjoyed visiting when I lived nearby. Majorly recommended to all those interested in books <3

There is so much to self reflect on still after finishing up the comic novel 'Twin Cities' by Jose Pimienta;

Twins in different schools on each side of the border; the isolation, the fatigue, the ego and identity that's all wrapped up in existing cross borders

Recommend comic to read!

Finished Twin Cities by Jose Pimienta; loved it, cherished all the moments so unique to those raised in border towns; the yearning for connection, identity, and a sense of self resonated throughout

Definitely recommending to all to read

Ah yes, the classic father response that is only the most vague solution orientated quick fast response that comes across as dismissal but he walks away thinking he totally has the answer to all your problems

The exhaustion from spending so much of your life commuting and trying to maintain a routine to keep up with school work while knowing that your routine is so dependent on other's schedules and the immigration policies between US/MX

I got to the part that Jo Pimienta showed me at the expo (and convinced me to instantly buy their comic)!

So much of your everyday commuting with no time for extracurriculars yet being so aware that these commutes are to access US universities that require extracurriculars

The struggle of being the sibling whose bedroom is the living room is too real (though in Teresa's case it is meant to be temporary as her room is in construction);

It is so lovely to see how much both Fernando and Teresa are trying to figure out who they are in this new stage of life

I don't know how to express the feeling of seeing scenes that could've so easily been plucked from my childhood; crossing the san ysidro and tijuana border crossing with all the vendors all around

So many hours of my life spent here, yet this is the first I see portrayed in a comic

Doesn't matter how many times you've gone through the process, your ma gotta remind you what to do (and ask yet again if you have the documents on you)

Starting to read Twin Cities by Jo Pi (Jose Pimienta); bought the comic directly from Jo at the Latino Comics Expo that occurred in the Museum of Latino American Arts this year

So much resonates with my experience growing up in a border town twin city (San Diego/Tijuana)
