So useful. It won't work, tho. (I've got more than one friend of a friend or extended family member great uncle, etc, who was an engineer 40 years ago, that has solved earthquake prediction or has a concise explanation of how the pyramids were made of concrete....)

Heh. The IT dept in the CRI I got laid off from in January, when redundancies were notified, sent phishing 'training' emails purporting to be from our workday accounts with a subject that referenced a problem with pay/leave balances. Brutal when leave balances are part of the redundancy payout

I'm on the other side of the world, but this meme of one of the most awful characters in the Sharpe series would seem to fit Sliwa:

I'm not a teen in their demographic, but Teen Vogue's political and social journalism had been excellent for decades, so it's galling to see them simply bought out, laid off and folded into the oligarchical propaganda system.

Mind you, the same attitude led to the modification of Long Tom Lee Enfields from the 1914 purchase of Obsolete rifles from Canada (our govt was always cheapskate) into an actually functional light machine gun that worked well enough that it would have done the job we'd usually need Bren guns for.

High manganese corrugated steel roofing iron. It may stop rifle bullets. Same stuff that the chonkier sort of Quonset and Nissen huts are built from.

At the time, the bulk of our army and materiel were in North Africa, but the advent of the Japanese Pacific Campaign meant that everyone was worried we'd lose Australia, and have to fight locally against a Japanese expeditionary force, so it sort of made sense.

Down at the aerodrome at Rangitata Island over Labour Weekend. Geraldine military museum and a bunch of vehicle restorers did an open day and displays.

Actually, I'm doing a disservice to the Schofield Tank, which was _So_ _Good_ that we sent it to the UK for evaluation:

The underlying chassis, engine and drivechain is that of a Caterpillar R-series D8 bulldozer, so that's the standard, rather brutal, track tensioning and (lack of) suspension system of the D8. Although this replica isn't a D8, so that's a non-D8 track tension and suspensions system pretending a bit

Once all the gunners are in, including the two chaps above the tracks, you can no longer operate the bailer, as (old fashioned Wire Bales, of course, no twine) the wiring machine is apt to include stray Lewis gunners in the haybales. You can still tow a standard haybaler behind it tho!

They were very interested about 1943, but declined on the basis that bulk shipping to Tatooine was not included in the deal.

I cannot claim responsibility for this, although a family member at <undisclosed location> did the work on the propane movie guns for it, what, about a decade ago.
