For the like, two people who care: commentary on one of my plunderphonics albums.
2022’s Everywhere At the End of My Ass, is not, as the title might imply, a Caretaker pastiche; but it is my first truly serious album, even if I'm not super proud of it anymore, and it is in six parts (which is probably why I named it after the classic in the genre). The concept for this album was originally a critical look at myself, and a commentary on moving on from the past. What it ended up turning into during production was an inside look at a long time friendship imploding in on itself in real time. As the album goes on, with each part, you can hear it getting progressively darker and angrier; and it becomes less and less clear whether I used certain samples because I thought they fit the track or because I had a bone to pick. I released part 6 genuinely about an hour after things finally came to a head, and it was a weird feeling when I finally realized a few months later how much of that situation made it into the final album. I'm not proud of this record anymore, but it's one of the few albums of mine from its era (2022 - 2023) that I don't actively hate, so that has to count for something.
