Worked-up sketches of sandwich terns (and a young black-headed gull) resting on the sand bar off the ternery at the Ythan Estuary on Sunday. So great to see so many fledged youngsters, after the colony was nearly wiped out by avian flu several years ago.

Bit behind on my Ythan Estuary blog but working to catch up. In meantime, here’s an encounter from last weekend when I went to the estuary early & noticed approx 30 House Martins gathering mud for their nests.
The tide had dropped & still falling, exposing wet soil along edges of the Foveran Burn.
