And finally a 4th offering (I could go on & on!) for the #birdoftheday alternative theme of #birds on posts, why settle for just 1 bird! Azure-winged Magpies (or the rather prosaic Iberian Magpies if you wish) piling in on a post.

I do love an endemic whitebeam!

Today's #birdoftheday theme is swans with an alternative of #birds on posts. Definitely going for the alternative, might be a series of them depicting birds from my patch in #Extremadura
First up, Hoopoe.

Going through files & found a brief video of some willow scrub. Couldn't understand why I had filmed scrub... Then I played it with the sound on. Such a common sound where scrub's allowed to abound.

As is Hawthorn. And Ivy. And Blackbirds. And, well, lots of species. The 'great' British acclimatisation societies of our colonial era have a lot to answer for. This is a great book, even though it will make you bang your head against a wall!

The #birdoftheday is 'ducks out of water' so let's go left field & take the phrase's meaning - something in an unfamiliar & uncomfortable situation. A newly fledged Griffon Vulture stranded on a busy road bridge, too weak to get sufficient lift. Bird recovered, fed & released🪶 @alan678.bsky.social

Today's #birdoftheday theme is ducks out of water. One of the most beautiful ducks, Teal, having a nap.

I do enjoy #birdoftheday thanks to @robcrank68.bsky.social & @alan678.bsky.social for coming up with topics. Today's is paddling #birds
Here's another with wet feet, a Night Heron.

Not my usual #wildlife fare, but I do also enjoy dabbling in #antiques Nice pair of Victorian hand painted uranium glass vases gently glowing under UV light. Scary? Actually less radiation than a granite kitchen worktop

Worrying increase in bird flu in wild birds in Spain, Cranes in particular are affected. Spain has huge numbers of Cranes in winter, forming large concentrations. Already dead birds are being found. 🪶

Another take off for #thebirdoftheday
Not the greatest photo in the world but it does show the length of the wings of Europe's biggest raptor rather well, just under 3 metres wingspan. An old world Black Vulture. Nothing cinerous about it!

Today's #birdoftheday theme is take offs, I have plenty of photos of fences where the birds had already taken off before I could press the shutter... But managed to time this one ok. A Bee-eater taking off whilst its mate looks on.

4 Northern Bald Ibis were killed with an air rifle in Extremadura in 2019. Covid caused issues with the police investigation, but they continues & last month the guilty party was sentenced, 1 year prison term, banned from hunting & fishing for 3 years & a 20,000Euro fine. @raptorpersuk.bsky.social
