Stopped in my tracks reading this just now.

From Joseph Roth's The Radetzky March, Berlin: 1932.

This chapter that unexpectedly ended up being about how much two truly awful guys hated each other—as well as about how much Indigenous folks suffered as a result of both of their actions—is way longer than I want it to be but I have a draft. I will take this as a victory.

As @rjjago.bsky.social points out in this excellent editorial, this is not a victimless crime. And King has profited greatly from ethnic fraud: he has made an entire career from speaking for (and not just writing about) Indigenous peoples.

This is probably the most important point though:

Chose violence today and made a cursed @scalzi.com burrito for lunch (leftover spaghetti, black beans, pickled red onions, mozzarella). It was glorious.

For the past 5 years, my kid has been in an after school board game and role playing game club (Game Master's Table) and I'm regularly blown away by how good it is.

Check out this description on their website. The wild thing is, it's totally accurate. And the kids are 8-13 year olds.

Pretty low wages, overall! Here's for Masons, Laborers and Electricians, respectively.

Just FYI, Department of Labour approved pay scales for tradespeople working in and around Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan in 1965.

Notable that Carney going all-in on "economic reconciliation" is basically telegraphing that he's given up on the Calls to Action altogether. From our 2013 report, an analysis that I think holds up quite well.

Fermentation day! Some (theoretically) medium spicy hot sauce using peppers that the farming couldn't remember planting and didn't know the name of as well as my first try making kimchi. We'll see whether they work out in a week or so.

TFW a local "historical society" uses an obviously (and egregiously) fabricated Harriet Tubman quote to launder the community's history of anti-blackness.

These polls by the PMO listing the Carney Liberals' key priorities reflect the saddest, most uninspired vision for a country already struggling to define a common purpose, culture or set of values. Combined with an austerity budget we have a recipe for decline and irrelevance.
