A cultural shift would be great but I’d also just be happy if schools stayed open. My guess is the kids whose only meals are free breakfast and lunch also would be happy with that outcome.

NYS court already addressed religious excused absences in the 1980s, and consider it a reasonable accommodation.

If I have to explain to a client or employer that schools are closed, it’s excessive. Today closed early for *checks notes* parent teacher conference. Earlier this week they were closed for Election Day. If the city, state, and federal government are open, schools should be open.
