Huge majorities of Ontario voters consistently vote for parties other than the Tories -- 58% in 2022, 57% in 2025. But the Tories win huge majorities because of Ontario's antidemocratic FPTP voting system. Don't blame the voters. Blame the system

He was racist, sexist, and ignorant. These were not liabilities, but political strengths, unfortunately.

Is Warren Kinsella aware that many Canadians don't care about the obscure lunar calendar reckonings and mythological storytelling that lie behind the shifting dates of Easter?

And what if Alberta votes Liberal? I think it could happen.

First Past the Post systems combined with 3 or 4 main parties, means the majority of votes don't count. Only proportional representation ensures every vote counts. Until we have democracy (i.e. PR), I will vote for whomever is most likely to defeat the Conservative Party in my riding.

If 57% of the electorate don't want a PC government, but that's what we get, voting doesn't matter. PR guarantees that each vote counts.

It's called polling. Pollsters survey 2,000 people and claim the results are accurate 19 times out of 20. On Thursday, Ontario ran a poll and more than 4 million responded.

Doug Ford was rejected by a majority -- 57%. The huge non-PC majority voted Liberal, NDP, Green or other. And yet, Ford's Tories won a huge majority of the seats. Ontario is not a democracy because it doesn't use proportional representation.
March 1, 2025 at 10:59 PM
If 100% of the electorate had voted, the result would likely have been the same -- 57% voting non-PC, but with Ford getting 100% of the power. Voting matters, but democracy (I.e. proportional representation) matters even more.

A big majority of Ontario's voters -- 57% -- rejected Ford. But with Ontario's anti-democratic FPTP voting system, Ford won another victory. Don't get mad, get proportional representation.

57% of those who voted chose a non-PC candidate. Under FPTP, Ontario is not a democracy.

Proportional representation now

If the fools who run the Democratic Party of Iowa had created an app that quickly reported the results of the Iowa Caucus of February 3, 2020, the headlines from the day would have been about the shock of Pete Buttigieg becoming the first openly gay person to win a state primary election.
January 5, 2025 at 7:21 PM
Who knows how Buttigieg as President would have handled the genocide in Gaza since Oct 7, 2023. I can only imagine it would have been better than Biden's acquiescence to Netanyahu's fascism. One can always dream, I guess.
January 5, 2025 at 7:20 PM
And if Biden, having placed fourth in Iowa, fifth in New Hampshire and third in Nevada, had then dropped out of the race, I can imagine Buttigieg winning South Carolina, and then moving on to Super Tuesday as the Democratic front-runner.
January 5, 2025 at 7:20 PM
And if Buttigieg had been the winner of both Iowa and New Hampshire, it is easy to imagine him coming in second behind Sanders on Feb 22 in Nevada instead of coming in third behind Sanders and Biden.
January 5, 2025 at 7:19 PM
Instead, the headlines were about the debacle of the party not being able to release results until Fri. of that week. If Iowa had reported its results quickly on Feb 3, it is easy to imagine Buttigieg winning the New Hampshire primary on Feb 11 instead of coming a close second to Bernie Sanders.
