I work in research and policy analysis (and occasionally recruitment), with a particular interest in health systems and infrastructure. We’ll no doubt return to that.

I follow football (Arsenal and Northern Ireland) closely, though perhaps less so than in the past as there’s too much money in it now. I like any team games.

Preferring amateur sport, I umpire about 70 hockey matches at all levels each season, including on the Ulster/Ireland panel.

I live in the Belfast suburbs with my wife Paula and stepson Thomas (stepdaughter Rebecca is studying and lives in the Durham area) - and, very importantly, our cat Murphy.

Just for the sake of introductions, one of my passions is travel (and another, sadly evident when you see me, is food) - this was Turkey in September.
