Even “left wing violence is on the rise” is dubious when the supposed year-on-year increase is smaller than the annual fluctuations. This figure from the report pretty much condenses these points. (Though I am not sure why “ethnonationalism” doesn’t get counted as right wing here.)

What a fascinating and unsettling story. Benjamin Franklin also invented a synthetic phonic alphabet but (to my knowledge) never ran an uncontrolled unethical experiment teaching it to thousands of children. Maybe Robert Lowth’s prescriptivist grammar textbook is in the same ballpark
