Yeah, though going back and listening to Do You Wanna Touch Me again, I can also kind of understand the people who still count themselves fans of the Glitter Band, because the gap between the pretty conventional songwriting and the absolutely brutal arrangement/production aesthetic is extraordinary.

That’s my point really. It’s when the person’s behaviour touches the art that it can actually make the art worse, by stripping away poetic ambiguity, anchoring it in the ugly truth the actions express. The way Morrissey’s xenophobia flattens the meaning of Bengali in Platforms, for another example.

Ian Brown beat his wife as well, which puts an ugly, physically violent face onto some of the lyrics on I Am The Resurrection in particular. It’s when the artist’s actions in their life intrude into the art in that way, that they can actually strip something away from the art forever.

What a ridiculous thing to say! That's like saying they hate fun, laughter and good times. Do they also hate Christmas?

Oh yeah, what a way to end the set!

This is true, but I think they're fine with this. Welcome it even. New culture is a nuisance at best and dangerous at worst. Dead culture is safe and easy to control. For them, English culture was decided and fixed a long time ago, and we don't need any new stuff to complicate the postcard.

I've never investigated any further than just being gobsmacked by the sign outside (it's a clothes shop, I guess?) but I'm glad it continues to exist for all our sins.

Taking the briefest moment off from being fiercely anti-football in order to marvel at the state of Villa being ahead of absolutely anyone on goal difference.

Disappointed that Supercar never made an album with a car on it.

It gets to at least one of the questions I had in that opening scene, which was why analogue recording gear would be creating digital sounding audio glitches (they faked it with a synthesiser).

Does Robert Görl make any appearance? He was on that album too, and I remember Annie sings on a couple of songs from his album Night Full of Tension.

When’s it likely to be out? Could definitely run it past my editors (those reference points will catch their attention at least).

You’ll have to get past his nanny first.
