St Paul, Maps, Data.
I'm finally scratching the itch of building a site to help alley captains with St. Paul alley plowing. As a starting point, I asked Claude to build a frontend. It came up with a very simple three-step process:

Balloons that are likely from Near Space Labs (nearspacelabs.com) spent a couple hours over the Twin Cities today – likely capturing imagery. Pretty interesting to watch how much control they have over direction, speed, and landing location. Tracks are here: globe.adsbexchange.com?icao=000201,...

Just in case you didn't notice, CVS started taking COVID vaccination appointments this past weekend. You'll need to confirm that you have a condition that puts you at higher risk for severe COVID-19 as described here:

Very happy to notice Saint Paul installing a painted crosswalk at Prior and Pennock for folks to get over to Can Can and Blackstack. Thanks St Paul! @mattprivratsky.bsky.social @seankershaw.bsky.social

Do you have an LG MVEM1825F over the range microwave? The LED that lights the inside will probably go out at some point. Don't pay the $250 to bring out a repair tech! Find part number AEJ74859414 (code for "two LEDs on a board with a JST connector"), open the metal case, unplug old, add new. Done!

This seems like a good use for a government mailing list

Yea, it was going pretty fast and was quite low as it came over the city for landing. They don't normally go over the city like this because it puts them in the path of planes approaching MSP. Maybe they were booking it to get out of the way of a plane?

It's pretty wild how much crap my ERV filters capture. The filters here were in use for just under 6 months. Top filter in the picture is the used version, bottom is the new version.

The dark grey ones filter fresh air from outside, the lighter one on the left filters air inside the house.

Experimented with some minor snow-based traffic calming today. The plow covered up the walking path, so I moved the snow into the road.

Results so far: cars are going around the snow instead of through it, forcing them to drive slower on the sharper turn. It helps that the snow is actually ice now.

Oh cool, Firefox started suggesting stuff from advertisers in the autocomplete box. You can turn it off in settings but it's enabled by default in the latest update.

How nice of Hennepin Arts to participate in Louis CK's redemption tour. They left the admitted sexual misconduct out of the bio in this pre-sale email and still asked for a donation. Weird!

I noticed in the zoning committee minutes that US Internet is looking to open a network presence in St. Paul near the corner of Snelling and Randolph. Pretty great for people in Mac Groveland and Highland Park looking for better internet options...

Playing with some GraphHopper routing APIs to see what drives look like with and without I-94. For example, this commute from Woodbury to downtown Minneapolis is 33 min without I-94 and 27 minutes with.

I tweaked an existing OpenStreetMap before and after tool (github.com/amandasaurus...) to do an arbitrary number of steps between start and stop, creating animated GIFs of OSM changes over time. Here's 10 years of Minneapolis OSM in 8 seconds:
