Also, capping tickets for an arena show at £35 shows what can be done, and it makes the night all the better when you don't feel you have been pick-pocketeted.

Isn't the simple argument, though, that BBC encroachment makes reader-funded models harder to achieve? Net result is ad-stuffed commercial websites and the BBC's underwhelming attempts to do local. Far from the only, or biggest issue. But one of them.

Court reporting, in our experience, is one of the topics people will pay for. What the industry needs is owners willing to hold their nerve while we continue to make the case to readers that quality content costs £. That's harder when you are answering to shareholders demanding quicker returns.

This is an interesting debate but the blame, if that's the word, doesn't just lie with publishers.
Readers get furious about adverts making sites hard to navigate, but even more furious if you offer to take the ads away in return for a small payment for our services. Got to be paid for somehow.
