*It will be the 25th anniversary of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act. It was a pretty big deal. More on that later this week.

SHARE this if you agree that the UK government should stand by its promise to improve access to nature. For EVERYONE.

Tell the UK Government: No more broken promises. Stop neglecting the public’s access to nature.
Across England, access to nature is deeply unequal. Despite knowing the significant benefits of walking, the UK Government is not taking action. Did you know that: Less well-off neighbourhoods in Engl...

But despite its promises, this Labour administration has not yet taken any meaningful action.

Everyone deserves a place to walk. It shouldn’t be a “nice-to-have”. It has a huge impact on our health, wellbeing and daily lives.

4. Join the @tyndallcentre.bsky.social scientists in rejecting Net Zero 2050 as grossly inadequate and Carbon Colonialism, and in calling for a fundamental rethink of the UK’s climate policy based on scientific rigour and international justice (theconversation.com/the-uks-year...).
The UK’s year of climate U-turns exposes a deeper failure
Breaking free of the dangerous pretence that current efforts suffice demands a fundamental rethink of the UK’s climate policy consensus.

2. Disseminate the extreme urgency and scale of climate action needed, e.g. as shown in my article in the @responsiblesci.bsky.social journal at www.sgr.org.uk/resources/uk... - requiring Net Zero 2030 for the UK to comply with its fair carbon budget for 1.5°C

The UK’s fair carbon budget will run out in 2027: here’s the evidence
Dr Ian Campbell shows how, on current trends, Britain’s carbon emissions will, within two years, exceed its fair share of the estimated global total that will breach the 1.5°C Paris target. He outline...

Great to see the new co-Chairs taking stock and asking for feedback.
My suggestions are:
1. Eliminate the current climate denial (to be frank) within UKHACC - see www.carbonindependent.org/175.html

The maths of limiting global warming:
For 1.5°C, the UK’s fair share of the global carbon budget runs out in 2027
- needing Net Zero 2030, and closure of most airports within a few months
- 1.6°C needs Net Zero 2035, and closure of most airports within 1 year.

But the @rozsavage.bsky.social version of the #CANBill abandoned 1.5°C and abandoned equality for developing nations.

That will mean 1.8°C and 100 million more climate deaths if repeated globally - see www.carbonindependent.org/174.html

TBH that’s not standing firm - that’s wimping out.

Yes, we need to talk about ending leisure aviation, and most private car mileage - but I think we should add “for now, until sustainable alternatives are developed” to sweeten the pill and counter the “You want us to go back to living in caves” response.
