So today I installed Omarchy on my Thinkpad.
Maybe I’m mad.
Previously I was running Ubuntu and I just found it ….. meh.
I also have a Mac and I just found Ubuntu was never really as good as the Mac.
So I thought - let’s try something really different.
Fingers crossed…..

MacOS Tahoe. Why oh why did they have to remove Launchpad?
Their replacement the “Apps App” is absolutely terrible.
I can only hope someone vibe codes up a suitable Launchpad replacement.

I've added an all new section on Hotwire Native to "Master Hotwire". I've put over 70h into making it the fastest way for experienced Rails developers to get up to speed with Hotwire Native. But I'll leave the old price until the end of the week: masterhotwire.com
Master Hotwire: Master Hotwire to Build Modern Web Apps with Rails Simplicity
“Master Hotwire” is structured to help you build a strong mental model of Hotwire. It combines explanations of functionality with hands-on coding. The book guides you through building a collaborative ...

So the Thinkpad T490 (32gb/1tb) arrived with Win 11 Pro installed.

I’ve installed Ubuntu 25 (dual boot) all setup with for Ruby dev in about half a day.

My only gripes would be the speakers sounding terrible and a trackpoint that just is not recognised. Otherwise the machine is really great.

Advise please. I’d like to trial developing (Ruby) on a Linux laptop.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap laptop and a distro?

I’m a newbie to Linux so nothing too complex that might scare me away. Many thanks.

Today I took a Hidden London tour of Holborn tube station. Super interesting and totally worth the 70-80 minutes, so much so I’m hoping to do the Dover Street hidden tour soon. Visit the London Transport museum website for more info.

I thought I might start an irregular post series called Shite AI.

#1. The loose fruit/veg scales in my local supermarket now have an AI camera attached in order to automatically determine which produce is being weighed. Weighing produce now takes 2 to 3 times longer. Thanks AI.

I received an email reminder from @andycroll.bsky.social about Brighton Ruby......

It's surprisingly close and will likely be the best Ruby conference you'll have attended since the last Brighton Ruby. Honest.

Get your tickets here.

The Comorore Pet was my first exposure to computers and from the moment I saw one I was hooked - it took me some time to actually get time using one. Very fond memories.

Anyhow. Here’s a fascinating post by Ken Schirriff about repairing one. www.righto.com/2025/04/c…

So this is a new alert pop-up on my phone. I’ve never seen anything like this, I wonder if it’s a new iOS feature.

Is it okay to upgrade a home Wifi setup to Ubiquiti - even if there is nothing wrong - at all - with the current setup?

Just wondering.
