Spending a few days chilling in York after a very busy few weeks. Always listening though & the campanologists in the magnificent cathedral were having fun tonight as we assembled for our ghost walk.

Fab review in @electronicsound.bsky.social of the 25th Anniversary Edition of Caged releasing on @muterecords.bsky.social on 28th Nov. Originally released as DiN5 way back in 2000 this collaboration between myself and Chris Carter was, perhaps, way ahead of its time so great to see this reissue.

Lovely review of 'Hydrology' (DiN94), the new album by @loulayorke.bsky.social in this months @electronicsound.bsky.social.
"there's a deep seam of melody, emotion & atmosphere running through her material. 'Hydrology' is a powerfully transportive record from an artist at the peak of her powers".

The magic of Autumn.
Anyone know which species these are?

Latest (re)read has been The Voyage of the Space Beagle, which is my favourite A.E. van Vogt novel and certainly a classic of the Golden Age of sci-fi. Published in 1950 it is a fix-up of 4 of his short stories and certainly was an influence on both Star Trek and more overtly the first Alien film.

Now playing Opus by the legendary Ryuichi Sakamoto. Taken from the film recital of his last performance just a few months before his death these simple, elegiac interpretations of a selection of his own compositions are both beautiful & redolent with memory & love.

1st patch with the Doepfer A155-2 sequencer & it's not an obvious Berlin School thing. Rather I have 2 synth voices with very similar 8 note phrases coming from the Hermod & the A155-2. A pair of Chance Delays are thinning out the gates as I mess with the tuning range of the Doepfer in pendulum mode

Trying out this new module. Doepfer A-155-2 Mini Analog Sequencer with Ratcheting. Dopefer of course kick started the whole Eurorack revolution but seem to me to be often overlooked for brighter shinier toys these days. However they do good modules at very compeitive prices.

Latest read in my A.E.van Vogt marathon is this 1976 edition Undercover Aliens. First published in 1950 as The House That Stood Still. I must admit I didn't find this one particulary riveting. Sort of a detective story thread within a sci-fi framework. Not evertyhing from the Golden Age is great.

This should prove interesting. An English Trappist Ale. Is such a thing possible? Brewed & bottled at the Mount Saint Bernard Abbey in Charnwood Forest. At 7.4% it comes across as a Dubbel style beer & tbh it’s pretty good.

Next one in my marathon A.E.van Vogt reading session is The World of Null-A published in 1948. There's one helluva lot of ideas in this novel although that means at times the plot seems a little incoherent. It was also amusingly incongruous that one of the main protagonists was called John Prescott.

Lovely trip to the Durham Oriental Museum with this Hannya mask used in Noh theatre amongst the exhibits. I thought it had a striking resemblance to the mask in the 1964 Japanese black & white horror film Onibaba.
