I believe refs performances are reviewed internally by the league all season and only the best are supposed to receive playoff games and the sizeable bonues that come along with them. Thus hurting them financially in a sense. But, thats about it unfortuantely.

There was a novelty screening of the movie The Long Walk, where you had to walk on a treadmill the whole time. Imagine if that was the only way to see that movie. And the response from the die-hard fans was "Lol get in shape loser".

No, but in order to disambiguate them from each other sometimes it has been necessary. With many of the journalists and broadcasters having now covered both, they commonly need to specify which Vlad they are referring to when telling anecdotes, using statistical comparisons, talking milestones etc.
