In a system where “demand pricing” is applied to life itself the only other way to lower costs is to devalue life. There’s no ceiling to the value of being able to simply stay alive.

Just speaking from experience. I raised two kids in 700ft²

It was not comfortable. But not necessarily because of the space itself or it's size. But lack of safe shared places where kids run free without watching like a hawk every second. Especially indoors

Sad and exhausting

The palatial detached house is equally isolating. Just a bigger box. Community cooking and eating spaces are almost non existent, playgrounds are rare. Especially community spaces in cold climates. There's nothing luxurious about any of it. We're not meant to raise children in a box.

They are saying it's luxury for some reason. Perhaps investment or tax breaks. It does not seem intended to be luxury at all.

Colonial home*

500 feet is fine for a couple. But not to have children. We don't have any housing anywhere in the western world appropriate for family life. Even a colonial hike is isolating. Only a few places in the Netherlands have multi unit housing with village like atmosphere

There is something else going on. I'm no real estate expert, but what I see is these places being built up in good neighborhoods under the pretense of luxury. But they're only luxury for a couple of years. They quickly become reminiscent of tenament housing. With plumbing in each unit at least.

I suppose it's easier to take special K instead of understand and apologize for what you did to your children. Or more importantly what you didn't do. It's easier than the pain of if being wrong.
