I'm not suggesting it as alternative but is Google Docs a thing in your industry? I'm genuinely curious if it has started to displace MS Office in any capacity in the real world.

I love open source but its tough to switch when you are used to a specific layout. I think most folks that recommend LibreOffice probably aren't using it for anything beyond the basics. I truly hope the folks that were trying to help were well intentioned and respectful.
