Yesterday, we launched a snap poll to understand school leaders’ views on Ofsted’s revised approach to inspection.

More than 1,400 leaders responded in less than 24 hours, overwhelmingly rejecting the inspectorate’s plans.

Ofsted should pause and rethink its plans.

Any reforms in this space will likely provoke strong reactions and it will be crucial that the government works closely with both parents and schools every step of the way.

It wouldn’t be the start of the new term without the customary alarm post. Have a good start to spring term everyone!

Well…this is concerning
Many are concerned about Ofsted’s inspection reform plans and how quickly they’re planning to introduce them

Doesn’t look like it’s making much difference at Ofsted though. They plan to start a trial before the consultation on new report cards has even launched
🔎Trials for a 'new approach' to inspections will start in the first week of next term, Ofsted has announced as it ploughs ahead with reform despite sector concerns over moving too quickly

📈EHCPs have doubled in the last decade, and the DfE predicts they'll double again without policy changes.
🧮 From 518,000 in 2022/23.
🧮 To 1,000,000 in 2032/33.

That is a very large rise.

I absolutely welcome the urgency of releasing this early but my goodness, it’s a bit of a slap in the face.

One of the things that keeps me going back to Twitter is that I get fairly regular DMs on there asking me for advice about reading.

Just to be clear: I am more than happy for people to DM on here for the same reason.

Primary school pupils in England should not face compulsory tests on phonics, times tables or grammar and punctuation. They are unnecessary burdens on time and funding—teachers know their pupils’ needs. 👇
