this is one of the best genres of art. (trees.) this reminded me of a Hirohiko Araki cover to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure with similar trees.
I'm pretty sure I've got a pinterest or folder somewhere with a bunch of images like this. lotta people draw great trees.

Sorry for the weird question but someone sitting front row left at the @stevelieberart.bsky.social & @mattfraction.bsky.social event at the @hollywoodtheatre.org had a white shirt that was like this. The back had cursive text and a circular logo at the bottom. The front was a great drawing.

back in 1947, there was a book called All-Negro Comics #1. It was the first comic by and for black folks, and thanks to the efforts of @chrisrobinson.info & crew, it's coming back from Image Comics this fall. I wrote a little bit about it. I'm very stoked.

I think that this is functionally identical to the Shonen Jump approach, with adjustments for locale. Jump is aggressive about tailoring series to trends, trying to make them more popular based on surveys, & canceling them when they don't meet the mark by chapter 3. The machine is efficient, rigid 🧵

Porter/Morrison JLA ended on a high note with World War III. The world coming together to defeat a shared threat, superheroes in the mix providing day-glo explosions and fast battles. Great take on Batman. Good superheroics.

I think it's the most purely super-heroic choice in the book, Batman telling Superman that they Don't Lose in Porter/Morrison JLA. It's probably the moment I think about the most. It's not Ditko, but it gets Ditko (to my understanding) 🧵

I got to see Aja Kong live at a Kaori Yoneyama (The Woman Who Loved Wrestling More Than Life Itself) show with a friend. She was dressed as Evangelion Unit-01 for part of it. Yoneyama was dressed as a cake. It was great.
at the end of one of Kaori Yoneyama's YMZ wrestling events, the wrestlers pose together for photos. in the front row is iconic pro wrestler Aja Kong, dressed partially as Evangelion Unit-01. next to her is famously un-retired pro wrestler Kaori Yoneyama, dressed as a cake to celebrate a wrestling anniversary. the dozen or so people around them are dressed as an Angel from Evangelion and the cop from Terminator 2, in addition to normal clothes. A sweater pervert and mixed martial artist, Hikaru Sato, is also present. a close-up of a dented can at the end of one of Kaori Yoneyama's YMZ events. Aja Kong used it to stagger someone during the match, opening them up for a critical hit.

I think Frank Miller has a remarkable handle on what makes superheroes exciting, both in terms of heroics and characterization. This bit from Dark Knight Strikes Again Noir leapt out at me. We didn't see much of Concerned Father Superman back in this era, right? It sings here, though. Panel 3's good
