I have eagerly awaited the results of the Million Mito Project for a few years. (For those who don't know, it's a massive undertaking by some amazing scientists and genealogists to update the mitochondrial phylogenetic tree that classifies maternal lineage.)

I'm still H1. 🙃

I've spent a wonderful week in my hometown New Orleans, visited with family, ate a ton of excellent seafood, rode in Krewe of Muses and handed out glittered shoes, and hid from the news.

I am thankful for the respite. Now, I'm headed home and back to the grind. May the good memories sustain me.

I can glitter shoes. I can snuggle with my dog. I can curl up next to my new woodstove. I can make plans with my family. All are worthy things, even if I am not okay today.

Every year I glitter a lot of shoes to hand out during my ride in Krewe of Muses (a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans), and for some reason I am most excited about this pair. They're a work in progress with a long way to go, but already so pretty! 😁

My neighbor gave me this table but knows no history. I've never seen a finial like that on a stretcher. Any furniture, antique, or restoration peeps out there who can give me thoughts on if it's antique, vintage, repro, or just fancy? The top's a mess but overall it's in good shape! I love it.

New Orleans is my heart's home. I've had family there since the 1730s; I've spent most of my 57 years there. Her magic nurtured my magic, her people taught me to celebrate birth, death, and everything between with a joie de vivre that isn't found elsewhere. I hurt for my city, and for all affected.

I've been gone from the Catholic Church more years now than I was in it, but neither paganism nor time has lessened my fervent mariolatry. She is my original Holy Mother, Queen of Heaven, and my first experience with Goddess.

This is a picture of her with my great-grandmother, in 1944, outside of our old house in Washington DC. I love her so much, she's so spicy! In that same email she also complained heartily about the Saints losing to the Commanders earlier today. 😆 However many, may all her remaining days be blessed.
