Heyooo! I’m Andrew.

After 3 years marketing startups, I went back to what I loved in high school: Video Editing.

After a couple of years, I’ve found a love creating trailers for course creators.

Follow me for posts on course promotion, editing, and more. 😄
Going out right now is a newsletter about my first time teaching others about trailers.

It was a great experience and I'm excited to do more in the future.

DM me if you want to join so you don't miss the next issue.

We were out shopping then this review came in.

I stopped my wife in her tracks and was so excited to share it with her!

My process is flawed.

So I'm analyzing and adjusting it.

I'm testing out adding a concepting phase to design title cards.

I haven't done too much design concepting for projects in the past and it slows me down when animating.

Now I'm seeing if it'll speed me up.

This seems to be a hidden avenue for more course sales:

Selling to teams at big companies.

I've had a few clients who were excited to use their trailer to help sell to larger organizations.

Misconceptions about your product are GOLD for creating effective hook for your trailer.

Most people get this wrong, but I'm going to share my process for using them to my advantage.

Tomorrow, I'll show my email list how to craft hooks for trailers.

I'm excited for the newsletter I have coming out on Sunday...

I'm breaking down one of the ways I think about creating hooks for the trailers I make...

The one question I ask all my clients and helps me understand their customers:

What misconceptions do your clients have when they talk to you?

Learn why when I send my newsletter on Sunday 👇

It's still never easy sending out the first draft of a project to a client.

I only send out what I'm confident in, but there's still nerves.

I put a lot of time and effort into what I send. I want them to like it haha

Finding inspiration for different title cards + motion graphics has been one of the biggest pain points for me.

So I'm solving it myself.

I'm taking stills from videos I think are great and building my own library of images to draw inspiration from.

A design swipe file.

For every client I have I build their script.

It requires me to fully understand what they're selling and to who. Then distill it.

Distilling the value can be the most time consuming aspect of what I do.

After writing the script makes the client feel like I've understood what they're all about.

Don't just start a course. Start a community.

Here's why:

A community allows you to help students actually achieve the promised transformation. And it allows the students to feel less alone with the course material.

One thing I'm thinking about a lot recently:

All the different ways video can be used in a business customer journey.

Most creators and online businesses use video on social only.

But there's so much more opportunity to wow your customers.

Landing pages, thank you messages, and more.

I'm working on a new script for a software product today.

It somehow feels much different but also very similar to a script for a course or membership.

One thing that's on my list to work on:

A scripting framework for trailers/promos.

If you're putting together a trailer for your products, think about the misconceptions buyers have before they buy.

These can be gold pieces to a hook.

This company has an explainer video which helped drive $1m+ in revenue.

It's been the same for 4+ years.

And I'm going to share what company it is and why the video works so well in my newsletter tomorrow.

I started using a new tool for client feedback recently.

Dropbox Replay.

I love how I'm able to get the notes imported directly into Davinci.

And if needed I can do live reviews with clients.

Honestly, one of the best review tools I've ever used.

Your course can be selling out one day then not selling the next. And it’s almost all because of one thing:

Your new customers can’t tell the quality of the course before they buy.
January 22, 2025 at 10:32 PM
When I started creating title cards for graphics, I did everything with text wrong.

I made text layers into shapes. (makes it 10x harder to change the text)

Reanimating everything when I changed it.

Text animators changed everything.

They make it so much easier to build editable animations.

The truth about selling courses online:

People won't buy if they can't trust the quality of the content.

There's a few ways to build the trust:

1. Create content over a long period of time

2. Show off the course on the landing page

3. Use a video to give them a sneak peek
January 20, 2025 at 7:13 PM
Every creator should have a trailer for their products. Here's why:

- Your audience needs assurance of the quality.
- Your personality gets to be shown off
- build more excitement than a simple text post.

SkillShare teaches their instructors a specific structure for the intro video to their course.

This is what they teach:

The older I get the more I realize how intentional you have to be about maintaining relationships with friends.

I’m also seeing ancillary benefits to having an email list or YouTube channel that is dedicated to sharing updates with them.
January 18, 2025 at 2:54 PM
I’m seeing more and more creators move away from just courses and starting to creating:

- communities
- tools

This is smart because a course can become outdated quickly.

Many creators stop at organic social video.

There’s so many more opportunities for using video effectively in your marketing:

- onboarding
- offboarding
- testimonials
- mid project

What else?
