As opposed to what other kinds of settlements, please?

Favourite short stories that I’ve read in the last couple of weeks.

Sorry you can’t come to school today, we don’t have any teachers.

What an embarrassment public transport is in the UK. Always an adventure though - maybe you’ll get to where you’re going, maybe you won’t.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The best short stories I read last month. 🧵

Claire Keegan — Antarctica (Antarctica) Cold, precise, terrifying. A writer wholly in control.

@mjohnharrison.bsky.social — Egnaro (The Ice Monkey) An obsession that plays out across novels in a nutshell. A yearning for what is always out of sight.⁣

I think you're maybe doing a little linguistic stereotyping there at the bottom, Bluesky.

If you're in/around Sunderland, come along next Saturday 10-12 to help out at our Potato Garth beach clean. All gear provided, come along and make a difference.

"Remember: no gods, no masters, and there is no authority but yourself. Now rise like lions after slumber, in unvanquishable number."

For those nearby: next Sunday at Roker beach. 10-12, meet at the pier gates, and we'll have all the gear you need.

Debris on our beaches kills marine wildlife. Last year we took nearly ten tonnes of it away - come along to our #beachclean and help make a difference.

This is Andy. He and his wife founded Hessilhead wildlife hospital in 1979.

Since then he has been directly responsible for saving tens of thousands of animals and building Hessilhead into what it is today.

Swans, hedgehogs, seals, foxes, birds of all descriptions, saw them all so well cared for.

We started the day with a good clean-up and breakfast for the hedgehogs.

This is MacDonald. He was friendly, gentle, snuffly, and beautiful.

Just suggesting, florist web designer, that when someone is buying flowers from the Condolences section you don’t take them to this before checkout…
