PERSON OF THE DAY. 3 May 1979. The General election resulted in victory for the Conservative Party led by Margaret Thatcher who became Britain’s 1st woman Prime Minister with a majority of 43 seats over Labour’s PM James Callaghan. She went on to win 2 further elections in 1983 and 1987.

PERSON OF THE DAY. 28 January 1547. Henry VIII died (aged 55). During his reign, he broke away from the Roman Catholic Church and created his own Church of England. Perhaps the most well known part of Henry’s life was his relationship with and treatment of his 6 wives.
