That’s actually the plot of Hotel California by the Eagles. Where have you been, Clive?

So smart, very droll. Sock it to the mad lefties!

So done with this condescending dumbfuckery.

The generalisable lesson of Mamdani’s win is that engaging with the real causes of people’s unsatisfactory material circumstances — rather than pandering to fabulist fear-mongering — WORKS.

This was a *terrible* interview, @maketotalcollapse.bsky.social is right. Sultana is supposed to the young energetic communicator who can connect a new party of the left with disaffected normies, but can’t speak in anything other than “crusty old Trot” buzzwords…

8pm on a Thursday and this is the state of the Picturehouse Central Members’ Bar… Thanks, Asif Aziz!

Really rubbish.

Badly need someone beyond @jim.londoncentric.media at @londoncentric.media and the @londonermag.bsky.social team to stand up to this nonsense.

Any hopes, Sadiq @london.gov.uk?

2.07 vs 0.34 on xG created.
6 vs 0 on “big chances” created.
Only went 2-1 because of a mad decision not to recognise an offside player interfering with play.
2-2 goal took a massive deflection.
Salah hit the post.
Atleti created *very* little else.

The Arsenal fan sickness is so real.

Pretty fucking weird ad to be running in PureGym Lambeth lads

I bet this will be great. But — hopefully @stephaniefaye.bsky.social has already been in touch about this and I’m just lending weight to the suggestion — I’m here to plead for the people to be given the marathon/season they *really* want and need…

Never compromise, never apologise.

I will freely admit to not understanding the statistics jargon at work here, but to my untrained eye it looks like fractionally more penalties are missed and saved in shootouts than in-game, and that Alisson’s shootout save rate is about half the average pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC....

I’d also suggest that, as a government minister, either encouraging or allowing agents working in your behalf to attempt to break the law is probably another sacking offence.

Being an exploitative parasite might not be illegal, but it does make you a real piece of shit, and transparently doing so before a law change your government has enacted would prevent it simply makes you double the cunt. Manifestly unfit for your office.

Two paras from a recent @edzitron.com newsletter — primarily about the failures of the tech media’s coverage of LLMs/genAI, but the point about objectively-presented context being an integral part of reporting is universal. Coverage of so many topics is so poor because of a lack of context.

Yes! This is it: the original is ALL about how in a very particular place and time a society reacts to the outbreak in a very specific way that is so clearly a product of that place/time.

Have been enjoying @brokenbottleboy.bsky.social’s daily newsletters in the run-up to the publication of his book, and the kiss-off at the end of today’s analysis of three Daily Telegraph papal obituaries is a real gem

This was my thought too about James’s anti-JSO piece. Also: he doesn’t seem to have any counter to JSO and adjacent activists who would look at this highlighted paragraph and say “Well, exactly. I have engaged with the difficulties and trade-offs and think they would have been worth it. What now?”

This does really play into my reservation about Bluesky that it has so far been dominated — and occasionally policed — by a certain constituency who really want it to remain “nice”, mistaking challenging content/engagement with the abuse/hate and mis/disinfo of latter-day X. The twee social network.
