This is excellent advice. Relying on the word “deported” to convey the horror of state-sanctioned abduction is like hoping folks will understand “defenestrated” to mean “thrown from a window”. “Kidnapped”, “snatched” or “abducted” depict the terrifying reality with honesty and pack emotional punch.🧵
Can we stop calling these atrocities "deportations." These people sold to El Salvadorian prisons were not deported. Deportation is a process that did not take place. They were rounded up and removed with no process. They were kidnapped, not deported.
