Former OABCIG baseball player Cooper DeJean threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Saturday’s Iowa Cubs game at Principal Park.
DeJean was 4-0, 0.50 ERA; .511 BA for OABCIG as a junior during the shortened 2020 COVID season.

Herbert Hoover — the only Iowan elected president — is the “inventor” of Hoover-ball, a combination of tennis and volleyball, played with a medicine ball. Hoover played the game daily on the White House lawn while president (1929-33).

Herbert Hoover played sandlot baseball in his hometown of West Branch, and later played shortstop at Stanford. He became president in 1929, and threw out the first pitch at all four Washington Senators’ opening days while in office.
