I had the same issue. It seems to happen if you type a word then full stop then another word, with no spaces. And it doesn't go away even when you delete the typo

That is horrible. I did jury service in Oct, and noticed that none of us were asked in advance whether we could read the oath for ourselves (wd have been embarrassing in front of everyone if not). Neither were the witnesses, but the usher did ask the defendant; the different treatment felt awkward
