I don't know how to explain to you that the main goal of a political party that is interested in politics is to be part of a governing coalition. A party that operates in your paradigm isn't a political party ists an old boys work program.

The overall numbers are down even if labour specifically are up. This is the behaviour of a party more interested in canibalising its coalition partners than actually opposing its supposed opposition.

A major party in an obvious coallition position spending its time being concillatory to the opposing coallitions members and antagonistic to its own coallition partners is not trying to win.
