11/13 French had no love for a greenhouse cathedral, but put glass pyramids @museeLouvre?!? Sure, France HATED it at first, but now it’s iconic! Hmmm…sound familiar? They also despised @EiffelTower, & thought it was an eyesore disrupting their skyline, but now it’s revered as their national icon.🙄

9/13 So what happened w/France’s redesign competition? Let’s take a look @ some modern spire designs before they were scrapped. Loved Alexandre Fantozzi of Spanish architect group POA Estudio proposal: a spire made of glass which would reflect the traditional religious symbolic celebration of light!

6/13 Guess how many times Notre-Dame has been restored? Five! After the French Revolution, it was barely standing—its bells melted for cannons, and the spire had to be removed due to disrepair. It wasn’t until the mid-19th century that the cathedral was restored by none other than Viollet-le-Duc.

5/13🚨NEWS FLASH🚨Notre-Dame was never the perfect example of French Gothic architecture. It was constructed over TWO WHOLE CENTURIES (1163~1345) before it was completed! Over time the architect's plans changed & modern inspirations like flying buttresses were added to the upper choir.

1/13 Notre-Dame burned, & so did France’s courage for innovation. In 2019 fires damaged the iconic French Cathedral, the question on everyone's mind was: would it be rebuilt as it last stood, or reimagined with a modern vision? Turns out the French don't like modernization.
