Text: Some very vocal, very rich and very influential people have been pushing the narrative of trans people being “dangerous” and inciting violence against them. Not the least of these figures being JK Rowling. For the past five years as one of the most vocal hate mongers against trans existence, Rowling’s bigotry has engulfed her twitter, her publications post-Harry Potter (under the pen name Robert Galbraith) and overshadowed her work or functioned as an extension of it. On April 16, 2025 the UK Supreme Court ruled on the definition of “woman”, notably and purposefully excluding trans people from sex-based protections. For Women Scotland was the organization that filed the suit that was the basis for this ruling. It was reported that Rowling donated $70,000 to this organization and on the ruling, tweeted “I love it when a plan comes together. #supremecourt #womensrights” Tierra, Jes, Jacque and Gabe stand triumphantly atop rubble as a phoenix soars behind them. Text: This and her other investments are made possible due to the revenue she receives from Harry Potter properties (books, films, merch, games, etc.) Her influence is wide as she was one of the most celebrated and beloved children’s authors. Knowing that continued engagement and financial support funds her bigoted acts and investments, I think it's well past time to leave Hogwarts. Grieve it and find some new magic, it's out there for you. Or make your own magic. That's the goal of Sanguine Foundations, a response to and critique of JK Rowling and Harry Potter. We can do better. We can make something better.
