To add, the KB mentioned here was from August and the fault has since been identified to be caused by pre-release firmware of the SSD controller. Retail products should ship with the correct firmware and thus not be affected according to the manufacturer.

It's the norm because people want horny art but are too afraid to complain as the artist might half-ass their commission to avoid the refund. Heck, I know of people who took up a loan to commission a fursuit, paid 100% upfront of course, only to wait over half a decade with zero progress in sight.

Current list price is about $14k per injection in the US and Gilead (as patent holder) is the only manufacturer for pretty much all of the developed world, so unfortunately I don't see this being affordable anytime soon.
