Sure, but having your own compartment, which is not often on this route anymore, would still beat anything for me.

But given the crowds on this line, I look forward to the ICE’s when just talking about 1st class. And the bar of course.

I indeed usually sit 2nd class if I take it all the way to Berlin, especially if I need to work.

But if there is an empty compartment in 1st class, it is super luxurious obviously

At night we took the ‘Dacia’ from Brasov directly to Vienna. The original plan was to take the ‘Corona’ to Budapest, but there are replacement buses in the middle of the night on that route.

But this was another great night train ride in a 4-bed couchette.

I’ve been to Brasov many times, but it’s always a great place to be for a day or two. Unfortunately the cable cars up the mountain were under construction. Nevertheless a great 24 hours here.

The railway line from Arad to Brasov is being upgraded to 160km/h in order to dramatically reduce travel times. Many parts are done, but construction between Sighisoara and Brasov is currently ongoing:

Back in Medias, we walked right into a local wine festival. For 50 Lei, we got to taste unlimited wines from the region.

Next morning, we had a four hour train ride to Brasov.

In the afternoon, we visited the UNESCO world Heritage town of Biertan. Where the ‘Multicutural Transylvania Festival’ was being held (romania-atractiva.ro/en/events/mu...)

Music, food, drinks and other traditions. Cool to walk into something like this. The town itself was already beautiful enough

Medias, such a beautiful city. Super calm and proper Transylvanian vibes. Lots of people on the streets at night to enjoy the warm September temperatures.

The morning after, it was time for a three hour train ride from Cluj to Medias in these old German carriages and a cold #BeerOnTrains bought in the BAR carriage.

Cluj is a well known beautiful city, but we ended up on a Jazz festival in the Central Park. Lot of fun!

Next up was a four hour train ride to Cluj Napoca. Making seat reservations with Interrail at the station desk here was super straight forward (I’ve heard different stories). Same story with conductors here, super smooth.
