Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team are a voluntary search and rescue organisation covering the southern half of West Yorkshire.
Two back to back training sessions today for HVMRT, again simulating a call out, to treat and extricate a casualty who had fallen from height. Snow, wind and bitterly cold temperatures really tested our mettle.

**EXERCISE CALL OUT***
HVMRT shall be heading out from our #Marsden base on an exercise call out, designed to replicate at call out scenario, to practice drills and show our new recruits what happens on a “job”.
You may see heightened activity in the Holme and Colne Valleys.

As ever, the community spirit was invaluable, with a local farmer assisting with his quad bike, and a colleague from Woodhead MRT arriving to bolster numbers. The casualty was brought to the waiting #Ambulance for treatment and onward progress to hospital. 2/2

HVMRT were called out for the 8th time in 2025, yesterday, when we assisted Yorkshire Ambulance Service with a casualty near Hartshead, Kirklees. Having injured their leg in a difficult to reach spot, our personnel and medics joined YAS paramedics to treat and extricate the casualty. 1/2

A teenage girl had come off a playground ride, hurting her neck in the impact. Whilst medics treated her, an off duty Yorkshire Ambulance Service Paramedic offered to help. The girl was warmed up, immobilised and treated for pain, later being transferred to an attending #Ambulance. 2/3

Today, at Xscape Yorkshire, HVMRT had a great time meeting the public at our stall. Shortly before packing away, we were made aware of an accident outside, which two of our Remote Rescue Medics and other team members attended. 1/3

HVMRT convened today at our #Marsden HQ for an hour-long session, bringing together the main aspects of Group Leadership and casualty site management, then proceeded to Pule Hill to put it in to practice. The first full Sunday training session for our 2025 trainee cohort too!

Kev 921 is a few km south of #Malham but unfortunately Mel, and her husband John, have had to retire after an arduous slog up Black Hill into our MRT area. An amazing feat regardless, tabbing from Edale over two (almost three) mountains in deep snow and ice. Great work all!

HVMRT assisted a casualty get from their house to a waiting Yorkshire Ambulance Service crew today, in Marsden, as icy conditions continue to hamper access across the region.
Everyone in the team wishes the patient a quick recovery and a happy new year.

This afternoon, HVMRT Remote Rescue Medical Technicians assisted Yorkshire Ambulance Service in #Huddersfield with the treatment and extrication of a patient from their house, in difficult snow conditions. Now that roads are clearing, our crew at HQ has disbanded, but all remain on call.

HVMRT personnel live across our region (the southern half of West Yorkshire, inc. the SE half of Leeds) and are preparing to assist emergency services in their local areas, not just Marsden and the Pennine moors. Some are even on joint call-out lists 1/2

This morning, the team assisted Yorkshire Ambulance Service in #Marsden during the #uksnow when a local person took ill, but whose house was cut-off by deep drifts. The team sledged them in our stretcher to a waiting crew. Everyone wishes them a speedy recovery.

the day and evening, to assist West Yorkshire Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Seevice, West Yorkshire Fire & Reacue, HM Coastguard, Yorkshire Air Ambulance with Search and Rescue operations. Our training schedule begins again on Jan 4th, when we welcome potential new recruits to our #Marsden HQ 2/3
