I was digging around in my china cabinet to find cookie tins for my shortbreads, and found my challah cover again. It is exquisitely handmade, a gift from one of my most cherished friends.

She has dysarthria and dysphasia and had to re-learn how to talk. She has difficulty reading and writing. She overcame these challenges to write this post because she wanted to do some advocacy for trans people. Next time, she’ll make sure to get a Bachelor’s degree in English before trying to post online, thanks for your input.”

This post, written by my wife, occasionally goes viral. Every time it does, some Hermione-brained pedantic dipshit has to nitpick Sairs’ colloquial grammar, so I have to bite them in the ass. 🙄

She feels better” It’s literally that easy to explain it to kids. “ Gina Bernico’s comment: “When I first read this, I interpreted it as “the child is sometimes 5 years old” and I was v confused” Li Bowman replies: “Gina Bernico it's all I could focus on. 😆 I was like, "oh okay so they're either developmentally slower or had a TBI.....oh, they just needed a comma." My reply: “Li Bowman My wife is the person who wrote this post originally. She does have brain damage in the language centre of her brain, due to a severe attack of Multiple Sclerosis. She lost the ability to speak and was in full-time inpatient therapy for weeks to regain the power of speech (along with other functions). People on the internet have nitpicked this grammar error in the post so much, that she doesn’t take any pleasure in having gone viral with this post. Instead, being reminded of it makes her feel stupid and small. But, you look very clever while tearing down a chronically ill person who wanted to share some positivity and hope for trans people, so I hope you feel satisfied about that.”

On the bright side, I am re-doing my writing nook and this is the current state of affairs:

DH has a special place in my heart because the story of the screenwriter is extraordinary:
On this Die Hard Day, I want to share one of the stories of Die Hard’s screenwriter, Jeb Stuart. Stuart tried to make it as a writer for so long, with such meagre results, that his family held an intervention to tell him that maybe writing just wasn’t for him. He told his wife that he would take an aptitude test at a college, and if it gave a non-writing-related result, promised to finally give up. The test told him to be a florist. Stuart immediately made up a family emergency and bailed on the rest of the assessment process. When he got home, Stuart told his wife that his result was “screenwriter”. He got degrees in screenwriting at two different Universities, putting his family into 200k of student loan debt - in 80’s dollars. His wife gave birth to their first child two months early, and NICU bills piled up. Stuart got an agent, speaking to several and choosing the one who was the most critical of his work. He was grinding out scripts for Disney and barely keeping the lights on, then Stuart told his agent “Give me any work you have, I’m desperate.” His agent told him, “Write an action movie. They make a bunch of money overseas because explosions don’t need subtitles.” Combined with the rights to a very depressing novel about a disillusioned cop, Die Hard was born. Years later, Stuart’s wife was dying. Not wanting secrets between them, he admitted to lying about the aptitude test. “I know,” she told him. The college administrator had called the next day, enquiring about the invented family emergency and sending best wishes. She’d known all along, and decided to quietly believe in him, until he made it.
