late bloomer learning to draw
--- canceled on offset, but not all, like any that say turn start/turn end on the skill.

the extra funny thing is once you learn about offset, the specifics can be obtuse and misleading, like it telling you youre offsetting a counter or clashable guard, but that doesnt actually work since offset can only be used on normal guard or evade, or that certain effects of defense skills get ---

like a simple example would be, killing an enemy with poison makes your poison skills stronger or something, maybe with diminishing returns to also incentivize killing enemies in different ways each time.

def agree with everything in this thread and just wanna add, i think communicating and incentivizing actions other than attack are important too, beyond just making them more optimal. players will often mash attack even if it kills in 3 turns if theres a more complicated strat that kills in 2

theres obviously some good games being made at big companies still, but all the good devs there make good games in spite of their company, not because of them. honestly, i view most AAA games as a separate thing entirely from video games, they exist as a business and video games exist as art.

tbh despite everything else thats wrong with living in current era, its a really good era for video games imo, since its now more accessible than ever for people to make indie games. indie games are where all the innovation happens and all the new creative ideas come from.

also not being constrained by physical paper, and being able to undo and edit whatever, however many times i wanted, ended up making me want to make tiny adjustments and waste hours changing basically nothing, theres a ton i wanna fix about this but id rather move on and learn more going forward

my first digital drawing, after getting my tablet i started on this, and then realized i didnt know what i was doing at all in csp, so i spent a while just figuring out the tools and messing around. also, physically drawing on a tablet also was a lot less intuitive than i thought it would be.

the drawing, so i feel i end up learning less since theres a limit on how much i can adjust things while im doing them, without having to start entirely over on a blank paper.
April 23, 2025 at 7:32 PM
no loss of motivation, that i feel like i can justify it. i still would like draw with traditional media but i feel like its really slowing the learning process, since coloring with pencils takes probably 3-4x as long, and constantly erasing while trying to figure things out ruins the paper and ---

i like both luna nights and deedlit in wonder labyrinth, but they felt a little bit too short/linear/easy to really make it to my favs, great games for sure tho.

ty for the recommendations, as ambitious as it may be, i plan to play every game in my library and wishlist eventually.
