One day I will become a good game developer.

For me I try to work on my games an hour or 2 a day, but sadly I can't do it everyday

Best of luck with your game bro

You should be 100% sure cuz if u don't refactor your messy code at some point in the feature u won't be able to add any new features and it will be so frustrating

And that’s the story of Sharp Bob! It was a great experience, and everything I learned helped me a lot when I worked with Unity later on

Can you solve the maze and advance to the next level?

After a while, I stopped working on the game but while writing this post, I opened it again and realized I could fix a lot of the bugs. So I’ve decided to pick it back up! My plan is to refactor the code, fix bugs, and then rebuild the mazes while adding some new features that came to mind.

Some jumps that felt obvious to me seemed way too difficult or even impossible to them. That forced me to recreate the maze design trying to make it more balanced.

That’s when I learned that playtesting is super important. My friends found so many bugs that I hadn’t noticed, and I also realized that the mazes were missing key elements. More importantly, I discovered that players approach the game very differently than developers do.

Using C# in Godot was tricky at first cuz there weren’t many tutorials but after lots of youtube videos, and reading docs, I got the hang of it. I finished all the main mechanics and moved on to level design. My plan was to create 10 mazes, but I only build 3 before sharing the game with my friends.

So, I grabbed some free assets from itch.io, but I still created some sound effects and even edited a few sprites. That experience helped me learn a bit about both Aseprite and Audacity.

I wanted to create a mysterious, maze-like game, and that’s how Sharp Bob was born! As you can probably tell, Sharp comes from C#, and Bob is the main character 😅. My goal was to do everything myself, programming, sound effects, art but I quickly realized that my art and music skills weren’t great.

Long story short, my game ranked 55th out of 68 entries. It wasn’t the best result, but I learned a lot from the experience and that was just the beginning

However, after the jam ended, I noticed that my game wasn’t played much. That’s when I realized my mistake: I had only uploaded a Windows .exe instead of a browser-playable version. Turns out, people don’t like downloading random files from the internet (lesson learned!).

I played the game before posting, and I figured out that the attacking was so bad XD. So yeah, I think I’ve gotten a little better, but to be honest, I still really like the idea. If you have time, try it out and tell me what you think! (Btw, it’s bad).

Try to get the rocks before they get you

I got an idea where the player had to destroy lava rocks before they broke apart and spread lava everywhere. I didn't have much time, so I sat down and worked 20 hours straight with little to no sleep to finish the game. It was exhausting, but I managed to submit it, and the feeling was incredible!

After that, I found out about game jams and searched for the nearest one I could join. That’s when I discovered Micro Game Jam 13. The theme was lava, and there was a prerequisite: time is limited.

Then I discovered game jams, Godot, and a whole community of people who make games as a hobby. That’s when I decided to do the same!

That was how I got my foot into game development. After finishing the course, I felt like this was the path I truly wanted to take. But for a while, I stopped because I thought it would be impossible to make a living from it.

The best part was finishing my first game and showing it to my friends and family. That feeling was incredible!
February 12, 2025 at 2:28 AM
Through that course, I learned a lot—how games are made, how to think like a game developer, how time-consuming and sometimes difficult the process can be, but also how fun and rewarding it is.

I had been thinking about making games for so long, but I didn’t know where to start. That changed two years ago when I stumbled upon Code Monkey’s 10-hour Unity course. I decided to give it a shot, and it took me about a month to finish.
