Went out for an hour with the radio. Took half of it to troubleshoot WSJT-X only to realise that the steam deck was 9 seconds out of sync!!

Managed a FT8 contact before having to head off.

A better go on the radio this afternoon. Couple of ft8 contacts and my first QSO on js8 call.

Wind was bitterly cold so I only lasted about an hour and a half before packing it all up with frozen hands!

Got a mag mount CB antenna, for the mount rather than the antenna. Ok-ish swr on ft8 this morning but no bites.

Afternoon was better. New battery hooked up and got contact on 20m on full power.

Digirig is still flakey though, slight cable disturbance and it momentarily disconnects the radio...

Spent my Saturday night soldering together one of these wee 49er CW kits. Figured it would only take an hour, 4 hours ago.

On the plus side it appears to work, and I didn't miscount toroid windings😅

Have been contemplating a (tr)usdx kit, so working up to it.

Also has anyone got a decent recommendation for a replacement battery system for the yaesu ft818? Mine has finally died. One of those days I guess! #hamradio #ft818

First time out with the radio in a while. Drove all the way out, got the rig set up but for some reason the laptop kept losing cat control....

Figured I'd try some voice contacts instead but I left the mic at home! 🤦

At least the view was nice and the temperature was above 4°C

Man, part 2 of #adventofcode today was just a no go. Had to look at Reddit for inspiration.

How the hell do people solve it in less than half an hour?!

D-YIKES-tra, right? #adventofcode

p2 was fine once I re-read it a few times

Great, I now can't log into wordpress dot org because I fundamentally disagree with this atrocious culinary choice.

We were blessed by @was.tl for the 10th (!!) year in a row with another awesome #AdventOfCode edition 😊 - and it's the 7th year I run the unofficial/community AoC Survey!

Here's a reminder to fill it out before it closes (~Dec 22nd) 😉

I essentially wrote a teeny game engine for today's #adventofcode which was all good. All except this one recursive edge case that took me longer than I want to admit to track down.

Usual story though,
- test input: "all good",
- real input: "nah bro, don't think so, eh"

Managed to get caught up with #adventofcode - ngl, had a quick look at reddit to see exactly what the hell to look for in part 2 today. And then the solution was, of course, regex 🤣

Getting absolutely tangled up my edge cases on today's #adventofcode

Started too late in the day, will need to revisit after a nights sleep 😂
December 12, 2024 at 9:58 PM
So I guess that just bumping the number for my inefficient solution to part 1 of today's #adventofcode is _not_ a valid solution for part 2....

Tempted just to leave it running though...
December 11, 2024 at 8:58 PM
In today's round of #adventofcode I inadvertently solved part 2 while trying to do part 1 🤦‍♂️😅

The whole affair highlights how the delicate web of domain registrars and DNS servers can remain a key failure point for web-based businesses.

Managed to get p1 done before work today but tripped myself up with a silly algo logic and an even sillier count error so didn't get p2 done until after.

It's been a _very_ long time since I've heard the word 'defrag' - very satisfying though!

Today's #adventofcode included a bit or radio stuff.

The Easter bunnies are obviously playing around with Baofeng UV-5R radios that are spuriously emitting everywhere!

Miserable Saturday afternoon so nothing beteer to do than today's #adventofcode

Since it's the weekend I took my time. My code has classes, functions, enums, and even recursion instead of the weekday procedural brute force approach 😅

Day 6, part 2 of #adventofcode took, well, lets just say some amount of time to run.

So while waiting for that to run, I did a visualizer for part one.

Still getting black Friday emails... My brother in Christ, it's December

For once in my life I did part 1 of #AdventOfCode right and part 2 was straight forward. We live in strange times...
December 4, 2024 at 9:44 PM
Continuing on with just lazily doing #AdventOfCode - after brute forcing yesterday, today was all about regex
December 3, 2024 at 8:57 AM
Day 2 of #AdventOfCode and I'm already just brute forcing the solution while saying to myself that I'll refactor later... 😅

This was my tenth(!) year building 25 days of puzzles for #AdventOfCode. You can solve them all for free! Most people write code to solve them, but you can solve them however you like. I hope they help people become better programmers. 🌟

The first puzzle comes out in two hours: adventofcode.com
