But I also use the thin brush but make the areas of the pattern very blotchy, making it less well-defined up front and less precise, it looks lower quality but as you said, it makes it look better when you either:

1) ask me for a more accurate photo
Or
2) look farther away!

It's digital art, I use ibispaintx, I start by downloading the picture of the animal, getting rid of the background, and then using my thin brush thickness and draw over the original picture.
