It's a 1990s entry level maki-e from Pilot's Hira maki-e series showing plum (ume). You might notice it's quite worn. It's a pen that belonged to my husband's grandfather, who passed away at 104. (Older than pilot pen company!)

The 1950s montblancs are pretty nice - priced to be used too (even now) and easy to find.
I found one for very cheap with a cracked cap. Had a friend help me glue the crack, then sent it off to an urushi artist (Bokumondoh studios) to get this beauty

My Pilot Deluxe looks so tiny in my friend's hand! We have a local fountain pen users/collectors group - pen posse - which meets frequently at Peter's Cafe in Millbrae (almost every Sunday). Good chance to try out, buy, sell, trade pens and stationery!

Same same but different. I like to have a backup or user fountain pen when it comes to vintage stuff (i know I'm not alone!). This is a platinum pocket pen made of cherry wood. The one on the right shows how it ages with use and time.

These two - Teikin on left, Platinum on right, have double feeds and nib tipping on both sides. They're meant to provide the pen with two nib sizes. (Or at least the platinum pocket pen is supposed to be F on one side, M on the other.)
