Interesting! From the intro, I'd wondered if the first movie was in development or something because how they portrayed Gollum/Smeagol was pretty similar.

Uh oh... busted/unfinished levels can either be really funny or really horrible. Were you able to finish the game?

It's really eye-catching!

War Gods played surprisingly smoothly, which is what I think drew me to it. I don't play a lot of fighting games but it was pretty fun! Black Mirror has some serious ambience and atmosphere that I want to experience more of. Hopefully it'll be fun when I get around to it!

I'm actually really intrigued by it. Bizarre and charming are both things I like in my games.

I feel like it should be one of the first Lord of the Rings video game experiences I have. It seems fun enough! It was out before the movies were made, right? I didn't hear any music in the bit I played that had any of the familiar movie soundtrack in it.

Gotcha! I initially had him for a bit and chat made me trade him for Alucard.

I started with Castlevania 1 around 2018 and couldn't finish it the first evening. I played through Simon's Quest, and not long after beat Castlevania 3 for the first time. I finished Castlevania 1 the same night I finished the third game. That was a night to remember!

Simon's Quest is my favourite. I find it a little too easy but I've also played it a few times and know where to go. It's interesting you find the third game the easiest. Getting through stages feels like luck to me. Did you play the North American version or the Japanese one?

There must still be a little snippet of the game I haven't played. The first time I picked up Sypha, the second time I got Alucard and went down at the second split, but I don't think I've ever been up there. Is that the "Grant Route" you speak of?

That was like me and Bill & Ted when I was little. I'm still very nostalgic for that one!

Yeah, there's a lot to learn in each stage. I think the other part is how long they are. You have to get through a huge amount of level perfectly and then somehow fight a boss at the end. The checkpoints are also quite cruel on the Alucard path.

Maybe I need a lot more time to work on that mastery. I'm glad you had such a positive experience with the game growing up. It sounds like I need to get my hands on the Famicom game!
November 6, 2025 at 9:43 PM
I eventually want to play the Famicom version. I just have to pick it up sometime!

I really feel like Eternal Darkness was way easier to pick up and play compared to Resident Evil. I liked Resident Evil's fear factor more than Eternal Darkness, but both games have their merits. I'm glad you got to experience Eternal Darkness and enjoyed your time with it so much.

I think it'd be great to see it get released from the confines of the GameCube. People absolutely adore it!

Good to know about it being on the Castlevania Anniversary Collection. I prefer original hardware only because I collect and that's what I enjoy the most. I have no problem with other means of playing games, but it's just a personal preference. Thanks for the info!
