Okay sorry for not posting in forever. I'd promise to post more if I was planning on doing it. Reality is I get through a lot more records when I don't post what I'm listening to. Hope to get back to it soon enough.

Look at this fucking gorgeous album cover though.

Jeff Rosenstock - Hellmode [2024]

Unless something changes, this year will mark the first in many that I didn't make it out to see @jeffrosenstock.bsky.social. Astounding punk songwriter, vocalist, bandleader and performer. Even when listening to other styles of music, 'Papa Jeff' is a polestar.

Tom Skinner put on an electric show tonight at Public Records NYC. The new album is pretty fantastic as well, if you haven't heard. #jazz #livejazz #freejazz #jazzsky

Reagan Youth - It's A Beautiful Day...For A Matinee! [Rel. 2019, Rec. 1983]

Great example of experimentation in NYHC. Lyrically interesting, played with real passion. Higher quality recordings would be nice, but not necessary for me.

Heart And Soul - Standing Room Only [1982]

Nearly impossible to find OGs of this #PFunk gem out of #RVA. Hugo & Philip Thompson, along with James Mosely and others combine for a macho funk experience you won't forget.

Tony Allen - Film of Life [2014]

Immediately one of my favorite records. Was saving this one for no reason. Allen is a true master of rhythm, arguably the greatest drummer who's ever lived. A late-career masterpiece from the #afrobeat pioneer.

Archie Bell & The Drells - Where Will You Go When The Party's Over [1976]

Bunch of dancefloor bops by a band ostensibly concerned with what happens *after* a party. Sigler, Wansel, McFadden, etc. Tip top sigma sound from the Philly crew

Johnny Colon Y Su Orchestra - Boogaloo Blues [1967]

My favorite latin record, found thanks to a years-old recommendation from my friend ZADO. Johnny is from El Barrio in NYC. The singing on this record is something to behold

Pasteur Lappé- African Funk Experimentals 1979-1981 [2016 Compilation]

Consider this notice to listen to funk and disco music from the African Continent. It will make your life better - if only through compelling movement.

Addis Pablo - In My Father's House (2014)

A love letter to his father's music and the music of his childhood, Addis makes a powerful statement with his first full-length. He pulls from deep waters. Can't wait to hear what comes next.

First Choice - So Let Us Entertain You [1976]

Philly vocal soul at it's finest. It's wild to me how much time you can spend in exclusively Detroit and Philly soul/funk/disco without getting bored.

Bill Evans - Waltz For Debby [UHQR by Analogue Productions 2024 press]

Trying my hardest not to let these expensive remastered represses become a habit I can't afford. This album is worth the cost and shelf space, though. What a stunner.

Group Inerane - Guitars from Agadez (Music of Niger) [2007]

One of the earlier high quality recordings of the electric guitar 'desert blues' sound that has seen a boost in popularity in recent years with the popularity of groups like Tinariwen, Mdou Moctar and Etrain De L'Aïr.

Lalo Schifrin - Music from Mission Impossible [1967]

Big Band soul jazz soundtrack for television. You know the main theme, but the entire thing goes absolutely dummy. The attention to detail in the production is downright egregious.

Creative Source - Migration [1974]

70s Soul vocal group on Sussex ("The Sound of Success!") records. Underrated by general audiences, immensely respected by DJs and producers. Backing tracks were recorded by some of the best studio talent Detroit/LA had to offer.

Harvey Mason - Marching In The Street [1975]

Joined by a star-studded cast of 70s funkers for his debut LP, Harvey Mason crafts a slightly more varied take on the funky style which made Head Hunters [1973] the highest ever selling jazz record to that point.
