Current #EU legislation does not guarantee that animals kept on farms can express natural behaviours. The consultation on farm animal walfare is our chance to demand modern, science-based standards that respect animals’ needs.

Together with @ifaweu.bsky.social @eurogroupforanimals.org and @furfreealliance.bsky.social we wrote to Commissioner @jessikaroswall.ec.europa.eu, expressing concerns that @ec.europa.eu could reallow products from seal hunts conducted for marine resource management purposes on the #EU market.

☠️ The “lethal dose” test was first introduced in 1927 to determine the amount of a chemical or substance that kills 50% of a group of animals. It is still in use despite progress in animal-free science. As the #EU prepares to update its chemicals law, REACH, we can end LD tests for good.

Many species are protected in their countries of origin, but once trafficked into the #EU, they fall through the cracks of EU regulations.

To stop this devastating practice, the EU must commit to legislation that criminalises the import, purchase, and sale of #wildlife taken illegally at source.

The Supreme Administrative Court of #Bulgaria has upheld a Ministerial Order from 2022 banning the breeding and import of American #mink. The order was challenged by the country’s only mink farm which ceased operations earlier this year. Bulgaria is now free of fur farms.

The rabbit pyrogen test—an outdated method used to assess the safety of medical products like vaccines and pacemakers—is officially replaced with a modern, #animal-free method. The new requirements officially came into effect this month!

🇧🇷🐰🎉 After a 12-year campaign led by Humane World for Animals, Brazil has voted to ban the sale of cosmetics tested on animals!

The ban will enter into force after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to signs the bill.

The European Council and the @europarl.europa.eu have reached a deal on the “One Substance, One Assessment” (OSOA) package which includes A Common Data Platform on Chemicals (CDPC) designed to support a stronger commitment to #animal-free science.
